Amidst the ongoing trial sentencing at the Criminal Court of Maldives, former President Ahmed Adheeb has been sentenced to jail for 4 years 9 months and 18 days on charges of corruption. In the ongoing trial, the former Vice-President pleaded guilty to all 7 charges of corruption under a deal made with the government under which the former Vice-President would be sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison in exchange for pleading guilty to all charges.

The peculiar nature of the deal has left legal experts baffled with many speculating that the former Vice-President will get his sentence appealed or even possibly pardoned in exchange for revealing the parties involved in the MMPRC corruption scandal.
