The Maldives Police Service has seized over 100Kgs of drugs in an anti-narcotics operation. According to the Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, the operation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department (DED) in collaboration with Drug intelligence unit and the Marine Police.

According to Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, the narcotics seized today from a boat anchored near Hulhumale’ included heroin and methamphetamine, weighing in at over 100Kgs. The Commissioner assured to the public that the Maldives Police Service will continue to disrupt the drug trafficking operations.

Just earlier this month, over 98Kgs of drugs was seized in a massive operation in Addu atoll with over 14 suspects arrested. Headlines were made after notorious drug trafficker Abdulla Ibrahim was arrested in the Addu drug raid. ate last month another shipment of drugs was seized from Hdh.Kulhudhuffushi with 3 suspects arrested. The recent spring of drug raids are associated with an increase in drug trafficking following the COVID-19 lockdown.
