Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister General Wei Fenghe has met with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa during his official visit to Sri Lanka. General Wei Fenghe was accompanied by 37 high-ranking official from China.
In a tweet made tonight, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa welcomed general Wei Fenghe and conveyed his gratitude to China for the numerous donations of Sinopharm vaccines and PPE kits amidst the COVID19 pandemic. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa also stated that discussions were held on post-pandemic economic recovery between the two nations to ensure economic stability. Discussions was also held on rebuilding investor confidence in Sri Lankan investments.
Relation between China and Sri Lanka has improved with both nations engaging in key economic activities.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa also stated that rebuilding investor confidence was key and essential for the Sri Lankan economy to grow.
General Wei Fenghe is scheduled to meet various officials in Sri Lanka including Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and is expected to depart on 29th April 2021. Following the change of administration in November 2019, relation between China and Sri Lanka has vastly improved with many now praising Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa for the rapid economic growth brought about by him under his Presidency.
