Opposition Spokesperson: 500 new membership forms submitted today, considerable number of forms still processing.

The Spokesperson  for the Progressive Party of Maldives, Heena Waleed has revealed that they had submitted 500 new membership forms to the Elections Commission.

Spokesperson Heena Waleed stated that the party currently has 56,000 members and growing and that even today they had submitted 500 forms to the Elections Commission after processing them. She also noted that the popular “Maves PPM” membership drive which was conducted earlier in 2019 brought in a considerable number of new membership forms to the party but was forced to slow down following the COVID-19 pandemic .

Heena Waleed announced that the party is now again open for new memberships.

In addition to this, the opposition party Spokesperson  Heena Waleed also stated that they have a “considerable” number of new membership forms still being documented  and processed by the party. She stated that the documentation process was being slowed down due to the pandemic.

Body of a 13 year old boy has been found in Hulhumale district of the capital city.

According to the Police Media Official, Police received a report in relation to an alleged case of abduction of a 13-year old boy, last Sunday. And amid further investigation of the case, police discovered the dead body of the child in the early hours of Tuesday, said Police.

The Police Media Official informed that two suspects; a 17 year old male and a 27 year old male have been apprehended in relation to the case.

The case is currently being investigated as a serious case said Police.

President Solih departs on unofficial trip to Dubai.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has departed on an unofficial two-day trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) this Monday to attend the funeral of his younger brother, Ahmed Mohamed Solih, who passed away, early Monday morning.

According to the press release published in the President’s Office website, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will be returning to the Maldives this Wednesday.

54 year-old Ahmed Mohamed Solih was being treated for cancer in Dubai, according to local news sources.

Opposition council member Ahmed Nareesh elected as the Deputy Mayor of the capital city.

Opposition PPM Council Member Ahmed Nareesh has been elected as the Deputy Mayor of the capital Malé city.

Ahmed Nareesh, who represents the Maafannu Medhu Constituency won his seat in the Malé City Council in the last Local Council Election after competing against a ruling party candidate. He, along with twelve  other opposition candidates won their seats by a landslide victory.

Today’s election was held between the council members of the Malé City Council. Ahmed Nareesh received 12 votes while his opponent received 7 votes.

Ahmed Nareesh is the host of “Madiseela” and its spiritual successor “Hajam” which has been recorded as the most popular nightly shows in the Maldives. A former solider, Ahmed Nareesh has been active in the political scene as a council member of the Progressive Party of Maldives.
