As the world celebrates the International Tiger Day, take a look at the majestic tigers at India’s Van Vihar National Park in Bhopal, India.

This year’s theme for the International tiger Day is “Their Survival is in Our Hands”. Tigers were nearly hunted to extinction prior to conservatory efforts, shrinking their population to just 7% of what it originally was. As of now, there are a recorded 3,900 tigers, with global organizations and governments working on doubling it to 6,000.

Climate Change Envoy Sabra Ibrahim Noordeen meets with SACEP Director General and French Ambassador.

The Maldivian Special Envoy for Climate Change, Sabra Ibrahim Noordeen has met with the Director General of the South Asia Cooperative Environment Program (SACEP), Ambassador M. Ashraf Haidari.

Ambassador M. Ashraf Haidari who is also the Ambassador of Afghanistan to Sri Lanka was joined by the Maldives high Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Omar Abdul Razzak.

According to SACEP, the Maldives Special Envoy for Climate Change Sabra Ibrahim Noordeen discussed the climate priorities of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ahead of the COP26 scheduled to be held in Glasgow, Scotland later this year.

At the meeting, Director General Ambassador M. Ashraf Haidari briefed the envoy on the mission, projects and programs by SACEP. He also highlighted on SACEP’s efforts to coordinate climate policy formulation across the membership countries and on implementing its across the region.

Director General Ambassador M. Ashraf Haidari continued on to state that “We at SACEP stand ready to support Maldives however we can, as President Solih leads the way in helping his country adapt to the adverse effects of climate change. As I said in a recent interview, fighting climate change can’t be done by one country or one region alone but by the whole world.”.

The Special Envoy for Climate Change Sabra Ibrahim Nooradeen and the Maldivian High Commissioner for Sri Lanka Omar Abdul Razzak also met with the French Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives Eric Lavertu.

The French Ambassador tweeted stating that he had a fruitful discussion with the Climate Change Envoy Sabra Ibrahim Noordeen and shares the concerns and challenges faced by the islanders in , Polynesia, Caribbean and the islanders in the Indian Ocean.

Fire incident reported again at the Villimalé State Care Shelter.

A fire incident has been reported at the Villimalé State Care Shelter. This is the third such fire to break out at the shelter within the past two months.

According to the Maldives National Defence Force (MND), a fire was reported from the fourth floor of the Villimalé State Care Shelter. MNDF Fire and Rescue Service has put out the fire while no injuries have been reported in relation to the fire.

However, substantial damage was reported to the room where the fire had broken out at around 06:03 am. At this point it is unclear how the fire started but with the previous fire at the Villimalé State Care Shelter, Ministry of Gender and Family stated that it was an act of arson by some of the children at the shelter.

The Villimalé State Care Shelter currently only houses children who are above the age of 13 and under the care of the state.
