Faarufushi Maldives resort is getting sold.

Faarufushi Maldives is located in Raa Atoll’s Faarufushi built by Universal Enterprise to be sold as per a statement issued by Maldives Tourism Ministry.

In a statement released by Tourism Ministry, a request has been made to transfer the leasing holding rights from current owner Faarufushi Investments Pvt. Ltd to an undisclosed buyer of the property. The statement further states that if there are any debts owed by Faarufushi Maldives to any party to come forward with a written complaint to the Tourism Ministry within two weeks of announcement.

As per the laws and regulations, any transfer of leased holding rights of the resort needs to be run through the Ministry of Tourism and they have publicly announced such matters.

Faarufushi Investments Pvt. Ltd. is the current leased holder of the Faarufushi and its main shareholder Universal Enterprises is pioneers of the Maldives tourism industry and is also one oldest company in the Maldives. Faarufushi Maldives resort was opened in March 2016 with 80 rooms that hold a capacity of 160 beds.

MPL clears over 54k tons in first six months

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) says the agency has cleared 54,600 tons of products in the first six months of this year.

Statistics released show that in the period 183 container ships had docked, while 47,408 containers were cleared. Though it is a promising statistic, this is still 2,000 containers less than the amount cleared in the same period in 2020.

Official figures state that MPL is capable of clearing between 60,000 and 70,000 containers annually. However, statistics of 2019 show that MPL had cleared around 140,000 containers.

This, MPL said highlighted the need for MPL to increase their capacity. As such, they have begun construction of a state-of-the-art port and clearance facility in Gulhifalhu, a reclaimed area in the atoll. Once opened, MPL expects the clearance rate to increase.

Sri Lankan Ratmalana Airport has started international flights for the first time to the Maldives.

The Airport in Sri Lankan Westernmost Province Colombo Ratmalana District has started international flights for the first time in 50 years, and their first international destination has been set to be the Maldives.

According to Sri Lankan Tourism Ministry, the flight is scheduled for next month.

The Sri Lankan Tourism Ministry has said that the decision was made after long discussions with Maldivian Airlines.

Ratmalana Airport was established in 1938. However, the flights were suspended in the airport in 1968.
