Visit Maldives kicks off marketing campaigns to maximize the Maldives’ brand presence in the Balkan region. The activities for this region will be held for a period of 6 months, starting from November 2021 until the end of March 2022.

The focus markets of the campaigns, Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia, Serbia & Romania, have the potential to contribute greatly to the overall tourist arrivals into the Maldives. These markets have shown substantial growth over the years, have great connectivity and accessibility along with the spending power to travel to the Maldives. These campaigns coincided with re-opening of borders for international travels in these markets, and would assist in creating better brand presence and awareness in these markets for the Maldives.

Activities to be held in this region include outdoor advertising and physical activities in Hungary, as well as virtual events and familiarization trips for the markets. Through the campaigns, we aim to promote the Maldives as a safe haven for travelers from the Balkan region. The campaigns will assist us to increase arrivals from these markets and educate the travel trade about services & amenities available in the Maldives. The campaigns will help us create better knowledge and buzz around the destination and generate media coverage, create B2C awareness through direct contact with the potential travelers and update them with the destination information and latest travel guidelines.

The campaigns will not only focus on B2B components but also B2C components which are equally important when it comes to generating interest in the destination and to prompt travel from these markets to the Maldives. The campaigns are held as part of the Visit Maldives’ marketing strategy for Balkan region, which focuses on marketing our products (resorts, hotels, guesthouses, liveaboards) and experiences unique to the Maldives.

Our global efforts are targeted to maintain destination presence and increase arrivals from top, emerging and new markets. It is also focused on promoting diverse segments of tourism that Maldives caters to, including luxury, family, MICE and budget tourists.

Diesel and Petrol prices hike again.

Oil prices has once again hiked as State Trading Organization, the primary government owned SOE which imports oil raises prices for diesel and petrol.

According to the State Trading Organization (STO), oil prices has raised to its highest within the past 7 years. This comes just moths after they raised oil prices with Diesel and Petrol prices pegged at MVR11.84 and MVR 11.16 a liter respectively.

According to the newly amended prices, Diesel and Petrol would be sold at MVR 12.44 and MVR 12.06 a liter. However, this is considerably lower as the price of Diesel in the majority of the nations are above MVR 14.41 a liter.

#IndiaOut movement gains further traction at national-level with massive rally in R.Dhuvaafaru.

The opposition backed “India Out” campaign has held another large-scale rally outside of the capital city. The movement has further established itself as a serious national-level campaign with the latest rally held in R. Dhuvaafaru.

The rally which was held in R. Dhuvaafaru was attended by opposition leader former President Abdulla Yameen on Friday evening.  Former President Abdulla Yameen received a warm welcome to the island with hundreds gathered to greet the former President.

Prior to launching the rally, a short gathering was held where the former President addressed the island. In his speech, former President Abdulla Yameen stated that there is no “Maldivian hospitality” for Indian military forces in the Maldives and that they are unwelcome.

He further stated that the participants of the “India Out” campaign are printing the slogan on their cloths, homes and other apparels and that the government has no space to comment on the subject. “It is our opinion. It is our walls. That doesn’t concern the Government.” said the former President.

He also stated that the government has failed a would not be able to show any credible reason to cease the “India Out” campaign.

This comes after the current administration launched a massive misinformation campaign with Indian media to discredit the “India Out” movement. While the “India Out” movement has been responsible for the 5 largest political rallies held since 2018, the current administration attempted to discredit and mislead the international media by stating that it was “the misled sentiments of a few”. However, the “India Out” movement has become the largest national-level campaign since the Maldives gained independence. Break-away factions from the ruling party and coalition have also joined the movement citing the urgent need to expel Indian military forces in the Maldives.

The new Japanese ambassador to the Maldives, Takeuchi Midori has presented her credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Ambassador Takeuchi Midori presented her credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at a special ceremony held earlier today at the President’s Office.

Speaking at the ceremony President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih noted on the Ambassador Takeuchi Midori’s predecessor Keiko Yanai’s work in enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih expressed hope in continuing to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two nations under Ambassador Takeuchi Midori tenure.

Ambassador Takeuchi Midori also spoke at the ceremony, noting that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the Maldives and Japan. She expressed hope that the two nations would work together on regional and global issues.
