21 international airlines operating flights to Maldives

Ministry of Tourism has revealed that 21 international airlines are currently operating flights to the Maldives.

The latest statistics published by the tourism ministry show 18 international airlines are operating scheduled flights to the Maldives, while three airlines are operating chartered flights. Most of the airlines are based in Europe and the Middle East, with six airlines from each region operating flights to the Maldives.

The European airlines consist of Aeroflot, Edelweiss, Neos, Turkish Airlines, Air Astana, and LOT Polish Airlines. The Middle Eastern airlines consist of Emirates, Etihad, Airways, Fly Dubai, Gulf Air, and Saudia. The statistics show that most of the international flights operating in the Maldives come from India. The flights are operated by Air Vistara, Air India, Indigo, and Go Air.

Airlines from other regions are also operating flights to the Maldives. They are US-Bangla Airlines, Air Seychelles, Singapore Airlines, Srilankan Airlines, Air Asia, Air Asia Thailand, and Bangkok Airways.

The Maldives has recorded over one million tourist visits and aims to reach 1.6 million arrivals by the end of 2022.

Maldivian Airlines introduced an ATR 72-600

Maldivian Airlines has introduced in an ATR aircraft for temporary use to fulfill peak season demand. The national airline has placed an order for three ATR aircraft.

Maldivian has brought in an ATR aircraft for temporary use in advance to put together for the peak season.

Aishath Jennifer, Deputy Managing Director of Island Aviation, which operates Maldivian, stated of the aircraft will be delivered through the second week of December.

The third ATR aircraft can be delivered during the first quarter of next year. Jennifer stated the aircraft, which are currently in temporary use, will be launched as soon as the ordered aircraft are available.

Island Aviation intends to use ATR aircraft on domestic and international flights.

In addition to the ATR aircraft, Maldivian is likewise working on a brand new long-haul aircraft. Maldivian presently has twenty one aircraft in its fleet. They consist of eleven sea planes and nine dash- eight aircraft

Kuwait Airways resumes flights to Maldives

Kuwait Airways, the national airline of Kuwait, has resumed flights to Maldives after the lockdown due to the coronavirus. The first flight of Kuwait Airways landed at the airport at 7:00 am today.

Kuwait Airways will operate two flights a week from Kuwait International Airport to Vellana International Airport. MACL confirmed that Kuwait Airways uses A320 aircraft for these flights.

Kuwait Airways has resumed flights to Maldives during the winter season, since Maldives is popular among tourists this season.

Azur Air has resumed Thier flights to the Maldives. Russia’s Azur Air fly to the Maldives mostly during the European winter season.

Azur Air flights from Moscow to Maldives main airport, Velana International Airport (VIA), started last Friday. Azur Air operates seven days a week in 336-seat Boeing 767 aircraft.

Russia is the one of the most popular source markets for Maldives tourism. As per the Tourism Ministry of Maldives, 128,678 tourists from Russia visited to Maldives in September this year. Tourist arrivals to Maldives have expanded significantly in this last three months of the year.

Tourism Ministry of Maldives expects the number of tourists from Russia to increase with daily flights operated by Azur air.
